What does 'night-time shutoff' or 'light sensor' mean?
Most cuckoo clocks (either mechanical or battery powered) come with 'night-time shutoff' in either a manual or 'light sensor' variety. This just means that both varieties enable you to control when the clock makes sounds.
Mechanical cuckoo clocks have a manual 'night-time shutoff' which are usually a lever with 2 positions - sound on or sound off.
Battery powered cuckoo clocks usually come with an automatic 'night-time shutoff' otherwise known as a light sensor which detects light levels and disables sound when the lights are off or it is very dark. While some include volume levels as well as sound on/off positions, some models also include an option to stop the sound between the hours of 9:00pm and 8:00am.

Fitted with a mechanically moving 'sun' which rises and falls throughout the day, the 'Sunset' is a modern wall clock inspired by a romantic sunset. Made in Italy by design leaders Progetti, this wonderful modern wall clock signifies that moment of rest and rejuvenation at the end of a long day.
Crafted from varnished wood and shaped in the form of mountains of different sizes and heights, the sun appears and disappears in a 12 hour cycle.
It is available in two chrome finished variations, one with warm shades of colour that represent the sunset in the spring and summer seasons, varying from yellow to orange, The other version has colder shades and represents the sunset in the autumn and winter seasons, the mountain peaks are white with snow and the colours vary from light to dark green.
Sunset can be hung form any surface, and will enhance any type of environment.
It is painted in non-toxic paints and the quartz mechanism uses battery movement of German manufacture, however the clock is assembled by hand in Italy.
